How to create a customer in Books?

This process works in apps: TB Books, TB POS, TB CRM
This article will teach you how to add a customer with contact details and optional price level or payment terms.
Customers in Books are shared with POS Lite for check-in, quotes, and work orders, and can link to CRM accounts for outside sales. One customer record keeps invoices, payments, and vehicle history on a single timeline. Duplicate customers split AR and make POS search frustrating during rush hours.
Steps
- Go to Customers in Books.
- Search by phone or email first — many walk-ins already exist from a prior visit.
- Click New Customer only when no match appears.
- Enter name, phone, email, and billing address.
- Optionally set price level and payment terms.
- Save the customer.
- Open a test quote or work order and search again to confirm the record appears instantly.
Conclusion & best practices
Search before creating to avoid duplicates. Matching phone/email matters for POS check-in and CRM account linking later. When a dealer also shops B2B through Sync, keep identity consistent — dual-identity users should still map to one Books customer per commercial relationship. For large cutovers, use Settings → Data Migration → Customers (Customer Import V2) instead of creating one by one.
