This process works in apps: TB Books
This article will teach you how to read sales, purchases, and cash widgets and jump into the related documents.
The Books dashboard is your accounting morning briefing: open AR, recent sales, purchase activity, and cash position for the active organization. Widgets are not the ledger itself — they are shortcuts into invoices, bills, payments, and banking lists where you can drill into exceptions. Use it daily to spot zeros, spikes, or aging balances before month-end surprises.
Steps
- Open Books and land on the Dashboard.
- Confirm the correct organization in the header if you belong to more than one tenant.
- Confirm the active location when widgets are location-scoped.
- Set the date filters to the period you care about (today, MTD, or custom).
- Scan sales, purchases, and cash widgets for unexpected spikes or zeros.
- Click a widget to open the underlying invoices, bills, or banking list.
- If a total looks wrong, verify filters on the list before changing accounting settings.
Conclusion & best practices
Treat the dashboard as a daily health check, not the system of record. When a number looks wrong, open the document list for that widget and verify location and date filters before changing accounting settings. Train managers to click through rather than screenshotting widget totals for leadership reviews.
