This article will teach you how to set a follow-up with due date, assignee, and related account or lead.
Tasks are the accountability layer for outside sales — calls, visits, and internal follow-ups with a due date and owner. Relating a task to an account or lead keeps the activity timeline useful for managers and covering reps. Tasks without due dates disappear from the dashboard and become invisible work.
Steps
- Open Tasks, or create from an Account / Lead record.
- Click New Task.
- Write an action-oriented title (e.g. “Call Sam about fall fill pricing”).
- Set due date and assignee.
- Link the related account or lead.
- Add notes with any promised pricing or competitive intel.
- Save — the task should appear on the assignee’s dashboard immediately.
Conclusion & best practices
A task without a due date is a wish. Keep titles action-oriented so the dashboard is scannable. Managers should review overdue tasks weekly — not shame reps, but unblock stuck deals.
