How to find or create a customer in POS Lite?

This process works in apps: TB POS, TB Books
This article will teach you how to search the shared Books customer list during check-in and create only when needed.
POS Lite reads the same Books customers collection used for invoices and AR. Finding the existing record protects payment history, charge accounts, and vehicle notes; creating duplicates splits that history and frustrates search during rush hours. Hub check-in and Customers both expose the same search — use phone first when possible.
Steps
- Open Customers or start Hub check-in for a new arrival.
- Search by phone number first — fastest match for walk-ins.
- Try email or last name if phone does not match.
- Select the existing customer when found — verify name and vehicle.
- Click New Customer only when no reasonable match exists.
- Enter minimal required fields and save before adding tire lines.
- Attach the customer to the order before quoting expensive SKUs.
Conclusion & best practices
Phone number search catches most duplicates. Train the counter team to ask “have you been here before?” before tapping New. If Books and CRM also track the dealer, align names — but retail walk-ins usually need only one Books customer.
