How to choose the product name on B2B search cards?

This process works in apps: TB Sync, TB Books

This article will teach you how catalog Description is saved or auto-filled, when that Description is used as the bold B2B search-card name, when Tire Base builds the name from title fields instead, and how to change those settings per product type.

Two different Description layers are easy to mix up. First, every catalog item has a Description field on Edit Product (Sync → Inventory → Edit Specs). If you leave Description blank and save, Tire Base auto-fills it from Brand, Model, Size, Load Index/Speed Rating, and Sidewall. Vendor file feeds can also write their own copy into that field — sometimes a short product name, sometimes a marketing paragraph, and sometimes warehouse notes such as FR2-P6 (4) 03-11-2026.

Second, the bold name on a B2B search card is chosen per portal under Product Card Title. Description uses that catalog field when it is a short product name. Auto-generated always joins the title-field chips you pick (Model, Size, Bolt Pattern, Finish, and more). Even with Description selected, Tire Base still skips unusable copy and builds the name from those chips: blank, brand-only, warehouse notes that include a date and a quantity in parentheses, and any Description longer than 80 characters (marketing paragraphs).

Title fields (or Fallback fields, when Description is selected) control the bold name only. Product Card Specs is a separate list of labeled rows under the name. Changing specs does not change the title.

Steps

Conclusion & best practices

Portals that have never been saved still use Description for all three types. Short names such as a model plus size stay on the card. Warehouse FTP notes and paragraphs over 80 characters never become the bold name — they fall back to the chips even if Description is selected. Add Finish or Offset if wheel titles should include those specs; remove bolt patterns if the title should stay shorter.
