How to get started with WMS: scanners, printers, and inventory?

This article will teach you the first-week path: set up a scanner and Zebra printer, then get catalog and inbound stock into the warehouse.

WMS is the warehouse floor app: scan to look up, receive, move, count, and pick. Before the first truck, confirm the header location, get hardware talking to WMS, then put product into bins with an Inbound session. If you purchased a scanner and printer from Tire Base, those devices arrive preprogrammed with the Tire Base app and the matching printer — you still need the Zebra on Wi-Fi and the printer IP saved in Settings. Personal phones can scan with a keyboard-wedge scanner; label printing only works on Android devices Tire Base sets up.

Steps

• Confirm the active warehouse in the WMS header matches the building you are standing in.

• If you bought a generic scanner (for example on Amazon) and scans type digits but do not submit, set the Enter / CR suffix using How to set up a generic barcode scanner for WMS?.
• Do not expect labels from a personal iPhone or Android over Bluetooth or a cable — see Why won’t labels print from my phone?. Use a Tire Base Android device for printing.
• Create bins that match the floor in Bin Management, then print or hang bin labels so scanners and people use the same IDs (How to manage bins in WMS?).
• Load the catalog if SKUs are not in WMS yet: Settings → Data Migration → Product Catalog, or link unknown barcodes during inbound (How to import inventory data in WMS?).
• Open Inbound, tap New, scan what arrived into bins, tap Verify, then Finalize and Receive (How to receive inbound inventory in WMS?).
• Spot-check a received SKU in Quick Lookup. If the bin is empty on screen, the session was not finalized or the header location is wrong.

Conclusion & best practices

Hardware first, then bins, then inbound — not the other way around. A scanner that does not send Enter, a Zebra still on Bluetooth-only, or a missing printer IP will stall receiving more than any catalog issue.
