This article will teach you how to create physical bin locations and use them during inbound and move sessions.
Bins are physical storage slots inside a warehouse location — aisles, racks, and floor spots. Good bin naming matches how humans and scanners navigate the building, which makes picking and cycle counts dramatically faster. Bins are created in Bin Management and populated through Inbound and Move sessions, not by typing quantities on the bin list alone.
Steps
- Open Bin Management from the WMS sidebar.
- Create bins that match your aisle/rack naming convention (e.g. A-01-03).
- Print or label bins so scanners and humans agree on the same ID.
- Use Inbound sessions to put received freight into those bins.
- Use Move sessions to consolidate partial bins during housekeeping.
- Retire or rename bins carefully when the physical layout changes — move stock first.
- Run Quick Lookup on a sample SKU to confirm bins appear after receiving.
Conclusion & best practices
Name bins for the floor map, not temporary projects. Empty unused bins rather than leaving phantom locations that confuse counts. A bin with no label on the rack will cause mispicks even if the digital record is perfect.
