How to receive a partial shipment in WMS?

This process works in apps: TB WMS
This article will teach you how to receive only what arrived today and finish the rest in a later inbound session.
Freight often arrives split across trucks or days. WMS supports receiving the lines that showed up now, completing that inbound session, and starting a fresh session when the remainder arrives. Never receive quantities that are not on the dock just to “close” a PO — that poisons pick accuracy and Books receiving alignment.
Steps
- Open Inbound for the correct header location.
- Start or open the session tied to this delivery.
- Receive only the SKUs and quantities that physically arrived today.
- Note short lines on the session or receiving paperwork.
- Complete that session so stock is available to pick.
- When the remainder arrives, start a new inbound session for those lines.
- Complete the second session and verify combined on-hand in Quick Lookup.
Conclusion & best practices
Never “receive” missing lines early to close paperwork. Partial honesty keeps Books/WMS and the dock aligned. If AP bills the full PO before the second truck, coordinate with accounting so bills match received quantities.
